Hi, I’m Phoebe. I am lucky enough to be mum to the world’s most adorable little boy (official confirmation is still pending but I am quietly confident).

I’m 30 years old and live in Brisbane with my husband, our baby Arthur, and one very naughty pet beagle. My professional background is in Public Health and Nursing.

My introduction to motherhood was something that I was completely unprepared for. At 28 weeks pregnant, I developed severe HELLP syndrome, a life-threatening pregnancy complication. The only way to stop the progression of the fatal syndrome was to deliver our baby immediately via emergency caesarean. And so, on New Years Eve, 2016, our tiny baby entered the world, 3 months before his due date.

Arthur spent the first 2 and a half months of his life in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Separated by his incubator and surrounded by the constant beeping of alarms, I began the journey of learning how to be Arthurs mum.

Being a preemie mum has certainly come with a unique set of challenges. But I have also come to realise that we still go through the same ups and downs as every other mum. Cuddles, sleep deprivation, breastfeeding, first smiles, starting solids, sleep deprivation, teething, giggles, crawling, sleep deprivation.

I, like all new mums, have had moments in which I have felt completely inadequate and ill-equipped to face the challenges presented to me. And the only way I have survived these times is with the support of other mums who can relate to what I am going through. A network of other mums to lean on, learn from, laugh and cry with!

I initially started writing as a personal, cathartic exercise to help me come to terms with my traumatic birth experience. However, once my work began getting published, I quickly discovered the fulfillment that comes with sharing my journey.

On this blog, I will be completely open and honest, sharing my experiences, ideas, thoughts and feelings. I hope that, in doing so, other mums will find this content relatable, useful and supportive.

Love Phoebe
